Adopted People
As an adopted person, you may find it helpful to talk to one of our social workers at some stage in your life. We can offer you the opportunity to speak to one of our experienced social workers in confidence.
If you have been adopted through St Margaret's, we will have some information about you and your birth family on file. As an adopted person, you have the right to access the content of these records. we can arrange to provide you with a summary of the information we hold on file. We offer a counselling service to help to prepare you for the process of investigating your past, to help you to put the information in context, and to discuss with you how far you wish to take the process.
Tracing Your Birth Family
If you decide that you may wish to trace your birth mother or birth father or any siblings, we can help you through that process.
Making Contact With Your Birth Parent
It can be something of a shock for a birth parent or relative to be contacted without any prior warning or preparation, especially if you are hopeful of a reunion taking place.
Reunion With Your Birth Parent
The decision to have a reunion meeting with a birth parent is a very individual decision. Adopted people can have very different views on the subject.
