Reunion With Your Birth Parent

Image: Cool ParentsThe decision to have a reunion meeting with a birth parent is a very individual decision. Adopted people can have very different views on the subject. For some a reunion is a vital element in their sense of identity and they will be certain that they wish to go ahead with a reunion. For others it is less important to meet a birth parent. Some people are content with a background of the circumstances surrounding their adoption, while others would like to exchange letters and photographs. There is no defined blueprint for this process and each person will wish to proceed according to their own individual needs and wishes.

Birth parents themselves will have their own views on how they wish to proceed and it is important that the process is managed according to the wishes of each individual. We advise that reunions should take place at our offices and we will facilitate the meeting to ensure that all goes well. We do not advise that you should exchange addresses and telephone numbers until you, the adopted person, are comfortable to do so.

If you feel that you would like to find out more about reunions, please contact one of our social workers for a confidential, no obligations, discussion.
